Aegis Environmental, recently sat down with one our Project Scientists, Nicole Schneiter and got the inside scoop on her work, podcasts, and advice for new environmental professionals.
Support, versatile, enthusiasm
Most days of the week I am working at a chemical manufacturer, helping them with air compliance and reporting and assisting in maintaining their air monitoring software. I am also conducting stormwater/erosion and sediment control inspections at a solar farm construction site.
Definitely the people! Aegis and the clients. I also love consulting because it allows me to be part of a dynamic environment, where the client, projects, places, and work are always changing. I love being kept on my toes and always learning something new.
I love the podcast RadioLab. It focuses on science and technology, but really touches on just about any topic from impactful court cases to conversations with an astronaut to how different animals perceive color. It’s always interesting and gives new perspectives!
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. School provides a good basis for understanding and critical thinking, but there is a lot in the environmental field that isn’t taught in school. The regulations can be very complex, and each situation is often unique, so no one has all the answers (except Sandy Morse at Aegis)! While it’s important to be resourceful and try to figure out a problem yourself, make sure to surround yourself with mentors and people who you feel comfortable asking questions. You don’t know what you don’t know, so it’s always better to ask!
