Slips, Trips and Falls - Safety Spotlight
Why It Matters: Safety on the job is a core priority not only for Aegis, but also for our clients. One of the more common causes of workplace injuries are slips, trips, and falls. Slips, trips, and falls account for ~15% of all accidents and are the second leading cause of injury according to the National Safety Council and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Common hazards associated with Slips, Trips, and Falls:
- Uneven surfaces
- Objects placed in walking areas
- Slippery surfaces
- Spills
- Poor lighting in walking areas
- Loose flooring
A few ways we can mitigate Slips, Trips, and Falls:
- Good housekeeping – keep walkways clear of obstructions
- Wear proper footwear
- Use moisture absorbing mats & ensure they will not slide on the floor
- Do not carry a load you cannot see over
- Proper lighting
- Repair or replace stairs and handrails that are loose or broken
- Properly assess ladders before use
- Avoid cell phone usage while walking
