General Environmental Support Services – Prince William County

Since 2003, under successive multi-year contracts, Aegis has assisted Prince William County (PWC) in the development and on-going expansion of an Environmental Management System (EMS) Program along with determining compliance with many complex environmental requirements.

Initial tasks included conducting environmental compliance audits of some twelve activities (e.g., fleet maintenance, fueling stations, print shop, landfill & recycling operations, fire & police training facility, and buildings and grounds chemical storage & maintenance) and assisting with development of policies and procedures to address best management practices and/or regulatory issues, especially associated with waste handling procedures.  In association with these audits, Aegis developed storm water and SPCC plans and conducted EMS Awareness, RCRA, US DOT, and Basic Chemical Handling training to PWC employees.

EMS program assistance has included:

  • participation in quarterly EMS Committee meetings;
  • development of protocols, procedures, and compliance tracking documents;
  • conducting and training PWC staff in internal auditing protocols and procedures; and
  • developing the applications for Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) E2, E3, and E4 level certifications for five Public Works activities and compiling required annual reports.

Other environmental services include:

  • assistance with a property Site Assessment prior to transfer to the VA Department of Transportation,
  • identification of potential environmental impacts/issues for a new Police station with attendant fueling islands,
  • negotiating terms of an incinerator air permit,
  • assisting with waste characterization and disposition,
  • conducting environmental training, and
  • serving as a resource for environmental concerns/issues.
