Jeff Steers has over forty years of environmental experience in the public and private sector.  Mr. Steers has held various roles in engineering, management, and executive leadership.  This includes working for two state environmental regulatory agencies, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).  He also led the regional office of an ecological consulting firm, serving on the company’s executive leadership team.   While at the firm, Mr. Steers managed a team of scientists, grew business development opportunities while having profit and loss responsibility.  Throughout his career, Jeff worked on and led teams in permitting and compliance across all environmental media.  Mr. Steers served as president of a national organization, the Association of State Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials.  As past president of ASTSWMO, Mr. Steers has had the opportunity to testify before the United States House and Senate on CERCLA reform and the role of the states in protecting the nations environment.  While at DEQ, Jeff served on the agency’s executive team as a deputy director responsible for operational oversight of the department’s regional and divisional offices. Operational oversight included all permitting, compliance, and monitoring for DEQ’s air, water, and waste programs.  He also oversaw the agency’s spill response and emergency planning activities, the communications team and DEQ’s health/safety program.  Jeff was the subject matter expert on emerging contaminants while coordinating DEQ’s response to per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Virginia.  Mr. Steers served as DEQ’s point person on economic development projects throughout the Commonwealth, collaborating with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) on air and water permitting for new and expanding business.  Mr. Steers has extensive experience in business process improvement, including lean/six sigma.
